We’re pulling out all the stops for our New Year’s Festival 2009. We are going to start off the weekend with the New Year’s Eve party to end all parties! We will have workshops, concerts, performances, and meals spread out over a four-day period here in Columbus, Ohio. Everyone is welcome! You can choose to come to individual events for $5 per event, or register for the whole festival for $50! We hope you will join us!

11AM - Breakfast: Cereal Serial by Whistling in the Dark

  1. A partnership with Whistling in the Dark theatre, we bring you Cereal Serial, a rare and magical combination of the most important meal of the day and an old time radio show performed live before your eyes! Featuring voice, live sound, and acting talent from some of Columbus’ finest artists, join us for what promises to be a delicious, delightful, and astounding performance.


1PM - Short Film Revue at Studio 35

  1. Join us New Year's Day for a collection of excellent short films by Columbus filmmakers.  The films will range from heart-warming to high-concept, from computer animation to 35mm.

3:30PM - Build Your Own Smoker Workshop

  1. Karl Boettcher will be leading us through the basics of building an easy backyard smoker using things found in your local home improvement store. Learn how to build a smoker, what foods are best to smoke, and some little known tricks of the trade!


3:30PM - Film: Improv Legends

  1. "Improv Legends" is a feature length documentary on improvisation highlighting improvisational ideas, insights, and icons.  Two improvisors go on a journey to find the holy grail of improvisation - the one tool that will make them the best improvisors of all time. Meanwhile they weave together a love letter to the art form that changed their lives.  Featuring exclusive interviews with founders, teachers, and improvisers from The Compass, The Second City, The Groundlings, TheatreSports, Comedy Sportz, iO, The Annoyance, UCB, and more... Co-creator Joel Veenstra will be joining us to answer questions and talk about the process.


6PM - Dinner

  1. Catered by Clintonville’s own Mediterranean oasis, Lavash Cafe! For only $5, enjoy a beautiful spread of delicious and healthy items from hummus and pita to salads and kebabs.


8PM - Concert: Alwood Sisters

  1. We are pleased to welcome back The Alwood Sisters, a Columbus band that will share their unique, rich rock.  Come to enjoy their beautifully crafted music.


9PM - Night After Last

  1. An intimate night of stories, performances, and song, celebrating the year past and turning our sights to the year ahead. Featuring live music by Common Shiner and the skills of some of Columbus best performers!

  1. Join local blogger Nick Dekker of breakfastwithnick.blogspot.com at one of his favorite breakfast places and see how a food reviewer makes his food decisions and rates them!

  1. Learn how to bind a book and even a little about letterpress itself with incredible talent Allison Chapman of the Columbus-based print company, Igloo Letterpress.


11AM - LED Blinky-Bug Workshop with Fuse Factory

  1. Learn how to make some fun Blinky-Bugs with Columbus’ main company for all things technology! Create art out of the strangest things!


3PM - Theatre Daedelus , The Copper Anniversary

  1. Theatre Daedalus presents THE COPPER ANNIVERSARY, a Staged Reading and Discussion. Featuring John Grote, Stefan Langer, Jane Mowder, and Tammy Muse, this new play by Ohio playwright Peter J. Roth begins on a warm spring day eighteen months after Felix lost his wife Zoe in a freak accident. On the morning of what would have been their seventh anniversary, Zoe suddenly appears alive and well and Felix and his family are forced to deal with sins and secrets thought buried with her. The staged reading, directed by Jeremy Sony, will be followed by a discussion.


6PM - Dinner catered by Wild Goose Creative


8PM - Improv Show

  1. Columbus’ funniest people get together and well, make us laugh! We promise it will be funny. Or else.


9PM - Concert: Matt Monta & the Hot Coal Band

  1. Music that features Matt Monta's impassioned songwriting and the musical stylings of an impressive group of musicians, resulting in an array of songs that move between folk, rock, and honky-tonk.  Come be drawn in and hear the great stories they tell with their songs.

A sci-fi art party, dance party, CD release, and the Wild Goose New Year's Festival Kick-Off all rolled into one! The night will feature musical performances by John Reuben, Jessi Cale, and DJ Mattiburns, as well as art installations by Fuse Factory, Michael Neno, Christen Nelson, Linzi Rigsby, Maxe Smith, and more. In addition, every attendee will receive John Reuben's newest record "Sex, Drugs, and Self-Control" at the door. Not to mention FREE food and drink all night!  This multi-venue party will also include interactive art via the ONLY space-pod photobooth Columbus as to offer, helping you make New Year's memories that span space and time!


Tickets are $15 and because we only have a limited number, they can ONLY be purchased before the event HERE.
