GEEKFEST

Geekfest is open to any and all geeks - from movie buffs to comic fanatics, Whedonites to Tolkienites--you’ll find something to feed your obsession! Each event is a suggested donation of $5, but don’t let that stop you. Pay what you can, or just stop by to have some fun! All events will take place at Wild Goose Creative, 2491 Summit Street, Columbus.

Thursday, June 18

8 PM:  A NIGHT OF SUPERHERO PLAYS

Find out if four playwrights use their powers for good or for evil.  This script workshop will feature fresh offerings from Michael Neno, Nick Fancher, Eric Mullins, and Andy Anderson.  In keeping with Wild Goose Creative’s Third Thursdays tradition, we bring you works in progress, lightly staged versions of four short plays.  After the performance there will be a question-and-answer period with the playwrights.

10:30 PM: THE AMAZING SCREW-ON HEAD AND SERENITY

Stick around for movies!  The Amazing Screw-On Head is a 2006 short inspired by a Mike Mignola comic and imagines an unusual secret agent under the service of Abraham Lincoln.  It features such voice talent as Paul Giamatti, David Hyde Pierce, and Molly Shannon.  We’ll follow this up with a screening of Serenity, written and directed by Joss Whedon.  Someone said there would be popcorn and snacks too.

Friday, June 19

8 PM:  ROBOT STAND-UP COMEDY

Humans, prepare to be destroyed by laughter units.  Visiting from Grand Rapids, Michigan, Unit PP-BO #2 will entertain us with his electronic wit and super-charged comedic observations.

Saturday, June 20

11 AM: “MAGICAL BEN’S MAGICAL FOREST OF WHEAT”

The creators of a web series join us to talk about this ever-changing and especially geeky art form.  We’ll see a preview screening of a few episodes and rough cuts and talk with the filmmakers, cast, and crew about their process and ideas.

NOON: SETTLERS OF CATAN TOURNAMENT: ROUND 1

Four games, four winners.  If you have ever sought sheep in exchange for ore, you should register to compete: email Jessie.

3 PM - 5 PM: COMIC BOOK READ-IN WITH THE STAFF OF LAUGHING OGRE COMICS

Come to share what you’re reading right now and find out what others are into.  Members of the staff of Laughing Ogre, Columbus’s own excellent comic book shop, will be on hand to talk about the highlights in their personal libraries as well as recent developments in the comic book industry.

5:30 PM: SETTLERS OF CATAN TOURNAMENT: ROUND 2

The winners of round 1 face off for the title.  The winner gets prizes!!!

8 PM: SKETCH BY NUMBERS

This group of collaborators hail from that august institution, The Ohio State University.  They have crafted an hour of geeky sketch comedy for your enjoyment and edification.
